Fountain Square is one of Indianapolis's oldest neighborhoods, with brick storefronts and pre-war homes dating to the early 1900s. Most homes here still have original cast iron drains and clay tile sewer laterals — durable but with specific aging patterns we know well. Plus the bars and restaurants around the Fountain Square cultural district mean ongoing FOG line work for commercial operators. Back to all service areas or south-east Indianapolis drain pros.
Fountain Square's housing stock is overwhelmingly pre-1930 — narrow shotgun homes, Italianate brick storefront-residences, and Victorian-era cottages. Three drain realities follow from that:
Cast iron drains throughout the home interior — durable but heavily scaled by 2026. Most Fountain Square cast iron we see is 70-100 years old. Internal scale narrows the pipe by 30-50% over decades, slowing drainage even when there's no actual clog. Hydro jetting strips scale back to bare metal without damaging the pipe.
Clay tile sewer laterals running out to the Virginia Avenue and Shelby Street city mains. Clay joints loosen, roots find them, and Fountain Square's mature trees (silver maples especially) capitalize. Annual root removal + foaming herbicide treatment is the typical maintenance pattern for homes that haven't lined their lateral yet.
Commercial mixed-use — the Fountain Square Theatre district, Hi-Fi Indy area, and Shelby Street restaurants. We service grease traps, FOG lines, and emergency drain backups for the bars, breweries, and restaurants. Off-hours dispatch keeps Friday and Saturday night kitchens running.
Fountain Square is in the Historic District for portions of its core, which means some external work (replacement excavation visible from the street) requires coordination with the city historic preservation office. We've done this before — it adds a step but isn't a barrier.

Call (463) 331-0700Probably not yet. Cast iron lasts 75-100 years if maintained. Most Fountain Square cast iron we see is structurally sound but heavily scaled. Hydro jetting strips the scale back to bare metal and restores full flow. Replacement only when camera confirms actual structural failure — and even then, trenchless lining usually beats full replacement.
Combined sewer overflow (CSO). Fountain Square is on the combined sewer system where storm and sanitary share a pipe. Spring rains overwhelm the system and back up at the lowest fixture in your house — the basement floor drain. Backwater valve installation prevents it. We install these and also coordinate with the city's CSO mitigation program.
Yes. Some Fountain Square blocks fall within designated historic districts that require Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission review for external work. We've done this paperwork before. For internal drain work it's not an issue; for trenchless lining it's also fine (no visible exterior change). Full excavation requires HPC sign-off, which we coordinate.
Yes — grease trap pumping, FOG line jetting, and emergency drain dispatch for the venues, bars, and restaurants in the Fountain Square cultural core. Off-hours scheduling keeps the Friday and Saturday lineups uninterrupted.
